Job Summary: The ServiceNow CMDB Governance Lead defines, enforces, and continuously improves governance policies, standards, and processes to ensure a healthy, accurate, and compliant Configuration Management Database (CMDB) within the ServiceNow platform. This role drives data quality, alignment with the Common Service Data Model (CSDM), and support for ITSM, ITOM, business service mapping, and enterprise-wide service management.

Key Responsibilities:

Governance Framework

• Define and maintain CMDB governance policies, standards, procedures, and RACI matrices • Establish and lead CMDB governance forums (e.g., Configuration Control Board, CCB)

• Ensure full adherence to ITIL v4 and ServiceNow CSDM best practices

Data Quality & Compliance

• Implement and enforce data quality rules, normalization policies, reconciliation rules, and certification workflows

• Monitor and report CMDB health KPIs (completeness, correctness, compliance, accuracy, duplicate/orphan/stale CI rates) using ServiceNow dashboards and Performance Analytics

• Conduct regular audits, identify remediation actions, and drive cleanup of duplicate, orphaned, or stale configuration items (CIs)

Architecture & Modeling

• Align CMDB structure and CI classes/attributes/relationships with CSDM for service-aware architecture

• Collaborate with Discovery, Service Mapping, and Integration teams to ensure automated, accurate population and reconciliation

• Define and maintain governance around CI ownership, stewardship, and lifecycle management

Stakeholder Management & Enablement

• Define clear roles and responsibilities for CI owners, data stewards, service owners, and governance participants

• Lead workshops, training sessions, and knowledge-sharing on CMDB governance, CSDM, and data quality best practices

• Communicate CMDB health metrics, governance updates, and remediation progress to leadership and stakeholders

Tools & Automation

• Leverage ServiceNow CMDB Workspace, Health Dashboard, CSDM-aligned modeling, Discovery, Service Mapping, and Integration Hub

• Implement automated data validation, reconciliation, and certification strategies to minimize manual effort

• Drive continuous improvement through metrics-driven governance and automation

Required Qualifications:

• 10+ years in ITSM/ITOM with at least 4 years of focused CMDB governance, management, or leadership experience

• Strong, hands-on knowledge of ServiceNow CMDB, Discovery, Service Mapping, and Common Service Data Model (CSDM)

• ITIL v4 certification (Foundation or higher) and ServiceNow certifications (CSA required; CIS-Discovery, CIS-ITSM, or CIS-CMDB preferred)

• Proven experience in data governance, normalization, reconciliation, health KPI reporting, and audit/compliance activities

• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and presentation skills

Preferred Skills

• Prior experience in regulated industries (finance, healthcare) with compliance reporting and audit requirements

• Familiarity with integration patterns between CMDB and external systems (e.g., asset tools, monitoring platforms, ITSM integrations)

• Knowledge of automation, scripting, and reconciliation strategies to reduce manual effort and improve data accuracy

Success Metrics

• CMDB completeness and correctness ≥ 95%

• Reduction in duplicate, orphaned, or stale CIs

• Improved MTTR and change success rate through accurate, reliable CMDB data

• Full compliance with internal audit and regulatory requirements
